PEB vs RCC Building in Bangladesh: Which Is Better for Your Factory or Warehouse?
Every new factory or warehouse in Bangladesh starts with the same question: build with pre-engineered steel (PEB) or with conventional reinforced concrete (RCC)? Both are proven systems. The right choice depends on what the building must do, how fast you need it, and how you plan to grow.
What Is a PEB Building?
A pre-engineered building is a steel structure whose columns, rafters, purlins and girts are designed for your exact load, span and site, then fabricated in a factory and bolted together on site. At City Steel, these members are fabricated at our Hemayatpur, Savar factory and erected by our own crews.
What Is an RCC Building?
An RCC building uses concrete columns, beams and slabs reinforced with steel bars, cast in place on site. It is the standard choice for multi-storey residential and office buildings.
PEB vs RCC: Key Differences
- Construction time: PEB is much faster because fabrication runs while the foundation is built. RCC is slower because each floor must be cast and cured.
- Clear span: PEB gives wide column-free spans that suit production floors and warehouses. In RCC, long spans need deep beams or extra columns.
- Building weight: PEB is light, so foundations are smaller. RCC is heavy, so foundations are larger.
- Future expansion: A PEB end wall can be unbolted and the building extended. Extending an RCC building is difficult and costly.
- Site work: PEB needs less on-site labour and keeps the site cleaner. RCC needs more labour, formwork and curing time.
- Best for: PEB suits factories, warehouses, sheds, showrooms and cold storage. RCC suits multi-storey offices, apartments and heavy vertical loads.
Which Costs Less?
For single-storey industrial buildings with large open areas, PEB usually costs less overall because foundations are lighter and the project finishes sooner, so production starts earlier. For multi-storey buildings with many small rooms, RCC is often more economical. Ask for a quotation of both options for your exact size and load before deciding.
Our Recommendation
Choose PEB when you need a wide, open floor, a fast start, or room to expand later. Choose RCC for multi-storey buildings with heavy floor loads. Many clients combine both: an RCC office block beside a PEB production hall.
